Remove domain admins access to SQL 2005 DBs

Hello,
Could you please advise how can I remove domain admins' access to SQL
databases on SQL Server 2005? Is there any only SQL Authentication mode ?OzzY
There is BUILTIN\Administrators group undfer Security folder. You can deny
access to database engine for this group

have another account that is a sysadmin that you can use to
get into SQL Server.
There isn't a SQL Authentication only mode - mostly because
Windows authentication is more secure. But you can remove
the BUILTIN\Administrators group. That is how the domain
admins inherit access to SQL Server - the
BUILTIN\Administrators group is the local admins group on
the box. Domain admins are members of the local admins group
on the box. And that's how they get access - all through
windows group membership and the BUILTIN\Administrators or
local admins group being setup as sysadmins on SQL Server.

Remote Desktop: Losing credentials ...

Hi,

I've experienced a problem (bug?) when deploying reports to the report server. My users kept complaining about losing authentication to reports when I deploy a new report. I found the problem but don't understand why this is happening. My collegue developped the earliest reports and loggs in with a different user on Remote Desktop to develop the reports. When the report is deployed, the datasources are deployed also.

Now when I log in on Remote Desktop with another user then my collegue and open the same report project, and check out the datasources, the credentials are gone ... ?!? So when I deploy a report the datasource with the empty credentials are deployed too, wich causes all the authentication problems.

My Question: How comes I can't see the user credentials my collegue filled in? When I open the report project the credentials are gone. I log out, my collegue loggs in, and the credentials are back Tongue Tied

I suppose this has something to do with Remote Desktop and the users connecting to it?

Thanks in advance!

Nobody?|||I believe Visual Studio stores the data source credentials in a user specific data file (<projectname>.rptproj.user). This is by design, so that one developer cannot "borrow" another developer's credentials. However, if you are using shared data sources, there is a simple workaround. Make sure that the OverwriteDataSources property in the Project Properties is set to FALSE. This way, shared data sources are only deployed if they don't already exist. On the first deployment, you may have the update the data source on the server, but subsequent report deployments will not overwrite it.|||

Hi jwelch,

Thanks for the explanation. Your solution will probably prevent anything like this happening ever again.

Respect! ;-)

Remote Connection to SSIS

Hello.

I am trying to remotely connect to SSIS from my PC using windows authentication in SQL mgmt studio and I keep getting the following error message:

Cannot connect to <server>

Additional Information:

Failed to retrieve date for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum)

Connect to SSIS service on machine "<server>" failed: The RPC server is unavailable.

I do not get the same error when I connect to the database engine, just SSIS. I don't have a firewall inbetween the machines either so it can't be that.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? if so, I would be grateful if you can you tell me how you got around it

Thanks

See this thread where I answered a similar question regarding not being able to connect to SSIS from Management Studio, I'm assuming this may be your problem:

I get the same RPC error, but one of my co-workers doesn't get the error, and he can connect to SSIS from his desktop, but I cannot. I assume I don't need to change the .i' GAD 0l3/2e3/2 006o Rn the server since he has no problem connecting.

Any other ideas ?

remote connection to sql server express

I have installed SQL server 2005 express on my main server.

It has been installed with windows authentication.

I can use sqlcmd -S machinename\instancename to connect to the server, but when I try to connect from another machine on my lan, I get the error about user not part of trusted sql connection msg 18452 level 14 state 1

I have tried using a windows username and password from my server to access it but that fails also.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

I don′t know if you specified the Windows username and password , because you can′t specify this within SQLCMD; if you use Username and password with SQLCMD you always switch to SQL Server authentication which can be not allowed on the server. If you want to use Windows authewntication, you have to log on as the appropiate user and then use SQLCMD or otherwise you can use the runas command of WIndows to impersonate yourself as the user while executing SQLCMD. Otherwise you can′t use Windows authentication.
